Adi Kailash

Pithoragarh district holds an important place in Uttarakhand’s religious tourism sector. There are many breathtaking religious places on this earth. For those addicted to religious tourism adventures Adi Kailash is no less than a paradise. Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam operates the same journey as Kailash Mansarovar for Adi Kailash situated at an elevation of 6191 meters above sea level. Adi Kailash is 157 km away from Dharchula. It involves a travel journey of 105 km.

Adi Kailash is also known as Chota Kailash. Adi Kailash also has the same mountain as Kailash, Parvati lake just like the lake of Mansarovar lake and close to Adi Kailash is Gaurikund. Like Kailash Mansarovar, the visit of Kailash to Adi is also considered as a very inaccessible journey. To get to Adi Kailash, one needs to travel 17 km from Dharchula to Tawaghat, 17 km from Tawaghat to Pangu and 18 kms form Pangu one can travel to Narayan Ashram in a vehicle by road. From there a tiring journey of 11 km to Sirkha, 14 km from Sirkha to Gala, 23 km from Gaula to Bundi, 9 km from Bundi to Garbyang,10km from garbyang to Gunji, 29 kms from Gunji to Kuti and Jolikyang can be reached at 9 km from Kuti. Adi Kailash is visible from Jolikyang and 2 kms further adjacent to Kailash is the beautiful Parvati lake. Gaurikund is established in the root of the Kailash mountain. A special significance of the bath in Parvati Sarovar and Gaurikund is mentioned in old stories.
