Chaukori

Chaukori is one beautiful hill station in the Pithoragarh district at a height of 2010 meters from sea level. Located near the western Himalayas mountain range, this place is surrounded by Tibet in the north and lowland in the south. This wonderful place is covered with forests of pine, bamboo and rhododendron. The attractive fields of maize and fruit garden enhance the beauty of this place.There are several historical temples in Chaukori. Nag Mandir is a major pilgrimage center in Berinag village. It is believed that this Nag Mandir was built by the Nagaveni King Benimadha. The passengers coming here can also visit Patal Bhuvneshwar located at 1350 meters above the sea.This temple dedicated to Lord Shiva can be reached through a tunnel cave. Nearby Chaukori, there is a famous Mahakali temple, which is one of the main Shakti Peethas of India. Adiguru Shankaracharya chose this temple to make Shaktipeeth which is dedicated to the Goddess of Hindu religion, Kali.
